The major attractions of the Camonica
Valley are surely the rock etchings, distributed all
over the valley territory and housed within eight archaeological
parks of which one is of world importance due to the
Unesco acknowledgment as a heritage of humanity. They
attract students, onlookers, scholars from all over
the world.
This national park with rock etchings of Naquane is
situated in the town of Capo di Ponte, where visitors
can come across the Massi (boulders) di Cemmo, Seradina
and Bedolina, places which are filled with these graffiti.
Other parks where it is possible to find ancient proof
are the intermunicipal Parl of the Moro lake, Luine,
in the town of Darfo Boario Terme, the Archaeological
park of Anvoia in Ossimo, the regional reserve of the
rock etchings of Ceto, Cimbergo and Paspardo, the municipal
park of Sellero and the multi-theme park "Coren
de le fate" in Sonico.
These graffiti give evidence of the life, activities,
uses and customs of the ancient Camonica Valley dwellers,
spanning over an extended period of time of which we
can understand the various phases of evolution of the
village dwellers' ancestors. Still today these graffiti
are analyzed in detail in a quest to come as near as
possible to the real meaning that these men of the past
intended giving.
It is odd to see how, already so back into the past,
people started planning an organized life with activities,
religious beliefs, battles etc.
They are a rare attraction these rock etchings, and
they are there to be discovered in the Camonica Valley,
together with a lot more
In order to remain locked in that era and experience
unique moments, two theme parks have been built, Archepark
and Graffitipark. The first one is located in the town
of Darfo Boario Terme, the second one can be found in
the land of etchings, Capo di Ponte. Historical and
detailed reconstructions which transport the visitor
back into the past and interiorize the history which
belonged to us before and always will in the future.
