Not far from the major cities, and not
far from each other, we come across the numerous ski-lift
facilities of the Camonica Valley, a land which has
always been famous for its winter sports and which every
year enriches its attractions with interesting innovations,
meeting the requirements of skiers and other sportsmen.
Starting from the bottom, we find Val Palot where the
more particular skiers can ski at night guided by the
specifically installed lighting installations. Borno
with 20 km of slopes, skiing schools and specialized
instructors there to help adults and children. Its traditional
historical centre invigorates and livens up the tourists,
who love strolling along, breathing in fresh air both
in winter and summer. Montecampione, part of the skiing
panorama in the Camonica Valley, an easily reached and
complete town, it includes a residential village, shops,
entertainment clubs and, naturally, several kilometres
of skiing slopes to satisfy the lovers of this sport.
Arriving in Alta Vallecamonica (the Upper part of the
Camonica Valley), we come across the well-known area
of Ponte di Legno, Tonale and Presena with the overall
100 km of slopes connected by thirty of the most modern
skiing facilities, arriving at an altitude of 3000 metres,
guaranteeing the possibility to ski even during the
hot months.
However, there is not only skiing. Engulfing the winter
sport scenery in the Camonica Valley is sleddog, with
the possibility of carrying out picturesque excursions
with dog-drawn sledges, the very fashionable "ciaspole",
which consist in wearing particular rackets on the feet
with which it is possible to go walking on the snow
capped mountains during the day or night.
Every year several events are organized for tourists
and residents in all the skiing areas of the Camonica
Valley, from snowmobile races to competitions with these
feet rackets, night strolls and all that a lover of
snow can wish for from his greatest passion.
